Enhancing Digital Learning: CVMBS staff Acquainted With Moodle and SUA-ESB Integration for Improved E-Learning

On November 8, 2024, the Directorate of Information and Communication Technology (DICT) at Sokoine University of Agriculture (SUA), through the SUA HEET project, conducted a specialized training session on the integration of the Moodle e-Learning Management System (LMS) with the SUA Enterprise Service Bus (SUA-ESB). Held at the Video Conference Room at the College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences (CVMBS), the session welcomed thirty academic staff members eager to explore the new system’s capabilities.

Facilitated by Professor Camilius Sanga, Mr. Hussein Mkwazu, and Mr. Juma Kilima, the training aimed to equip SUA’s academic and technical personnel with the skills to utilize the enhanced Moodle LMS efficiently. The integration with SUA-ESB provides a streamlined login process for lecturers, technical staff, and students, allowing them to access Moodle with their SUA-ESB credentials. This setup enables the seamless sharing of course materials, creation of online assessments, and automatic synchronization of grades directly to SUA-ESB, thus significantly enhancing the digital learning experience.

The session focused on practical, hands-on training, empowering participants to build and manage blended courses within the Moodle e-LMS environment. Key topics included uploading lecture notes, organizing resources through folders, sharing external URLs, and setting up online discussion forums.

Participants engaged actively, practicing the skills needed to integrate Moodle into their teaching and learning workflows effectively. By the end of the training, attendees left equipped to leverage Moodle LMS for a more interactive, accessible, and efficient educational experience at SUA.
