Prof. Esron Karimuribo graduated from the College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences (CVMBS) at Sokoine University of Agriculture (SUA) in 1995 with the Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine. In 1998, he was awarded a Master of Veterinary Medicine of SUA. His MSc work focused on the epidemiology of Contagious Bovine Pleuropneumonia (CBPP) in the Southern Highlands of Tanzania. He pursued studies in Veterinary Epidemiology at the University of Reading in UK and awarded a PhD in 2002. In 2009, Esron joined the SACIDS Foundation for One Health as postdoctoral research fellow working on resource mapping and application of mobile technologies in infectious disease surveillance. Through financial support from the Skoll Global Threats Fund/Ending Pandemics, Esron led a team that designed and developed an app called ‘AfyaData’, which has been rolled out to support disease surveillance in Tanzania’s human and animal health sectors. He attended short training on risk analysis, gender analysis, project monitoring and evaluation and One Health. Esron has published more than 130 articles in peer reviewed journals. He has long standing experience in project management, including inter-institutional coordination of staff and student mobilities. Esron held different administration posts at SUA (i.e., Head of Department, In-charge of Animal Hospital and Director of Postgraduate Studies, Research, Technology Transfer and Consultancy). Currently he is the Principal of CVMBS at SUA. He is also an Editor In-Chief of the East African Journal of Science, Technology and Innovation. Esron is a member of different professional associations and communities within and outside Tanzania.
