Prof. H. Nonga graduated his Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine and Master Veterinary Medicine at Sokoine University of Agriculture in 1999 and 2005 respectively. He was awarded a PhD in Environmental Toxicology (Ecotoxicology and his doctoral thesis is titled “Impact of human activities in selected lake ecosystems in Tanzania and occurrence of microcystins and potential microcystin-producing cyanobacteria” undertaken from the Norwegian (2008-2011). Prof. Nonga was employed as a Resident Veterinary Clinician at Sokoine University Animal Hospital since 1999 to 2003. Later in 2003, he was categorized to a Tutorial Assistant position, later promoted to positions of Assistant Lecturer in 2005, Lecturer in 2008, Senior Lecturer in 2012 and Associate Professor in 2019. Professor Nonga worked as a visiting Professor at Kilimanjaro Christian Medical University College (KCMU College) since 2014 to 2019. Thereafter, he was appointed as a Director of Veterinary Services (DVS) and Chief Veterinary Officer (CVO) in the Ministry of Livestock and Fisheries. Since 2024 he is working at Sokoine University of Agriculture (SUA) as Associate Professor (Veterinary Public Health), Department of Veterinary medicine and Public Health, College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences. Prof. Nonga participates in teaching undergraduate and postgraduate students, research, extension and consultancy. He has been a Principal Investigator (PI) in 2 research projects; Co PI 2 and collaborated in more than 10 research projects. He has published 88 journal papers and more than 40 conference proceedings and has co-authored one book and one book chapter.
