Emmanuel George Kifaro is a Lecturer (Molecular Biology and Biotechnology) at the Department of Microbiology, Parasitology, and Biotechnology, College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences (CVMBS), Sokoine University of Agriculture (SUA). He holds a BSc in Biotechnology and Laboratory Sciences and an MSc in One Health Molecular Biology from Sokoine University of Agriculture. His doctoral thesis on the ‘Microparticles’ Real-Time PCR for Direct Detection of Viral RNA from Non-invasive Matrices and Extensive Multiplexing of Respiratory Viruses’ was undertaken at the same University in collaboration with the Korea Institute of Science and Technology (KIST) in Seoul, Korea (2019-2023). His research interests include simple RNA preparation methods, designing and applying field deployable genomic-based diagnostic assays, molecular epidemiology of viral infections, and genomics and metagenomics-based studies. Previously, He worked as a Laboratory Scientist and Head of the Molecular Biology Laboratory for Early Infant Diagnosis of HIV/AIDS (EID) and Viral Load testing at the Clinical Laboratory of the Kilimanjaro Christian Medical Centre (KCMC)(2009-2015). Kifaro led the KCMC Molecular Laboratory to its Accreditation (ISO15189:2012) by the Clinical Laboratory Standards Institute (CLSI) in 2015. Kifaro has also participated in several research studies on Microparticles for viral diagnostics, HIV/AIDS, Rift Valley fever, rotavirus, and other pathogens coming up with 11 peer-reviewed publications.
